Mentoring
As a young global kid, I grew up moving between Taiwan, New Zealand, and Australia. Like many, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, except for a general sense of wanting to "understand the how the world works". I went into medical school because that’s what high-achieving kids in our culture did, it would be blasphemy not to. And honestly, the idea of taking a gap year to reflect felt scarier than just moving forward. But starting on a vocational path without a strong sense of direction left me wrestling with a lot of confusing signals within myself. Over time, I began exploring beyond medicine and, more importantly, got to know myself. Now, I have a much clearer sense of what I want to do, independent of parental or societal expectations.
I hope I can help students and early professionals do the same. I don’t see it as “mentoring” so much as just sharing perspectives from my own story and acting as a sounding board.
